Support Centre: Activities

The support centre runs on Thursdays only. Below are some examples of our activity groups.

Most activities run in the afternoon from 1pm to 3pm. Some run in the mornings from 10.30am to 12.30pm. A few are all day (10am to 3pm).

We ask for a small contribution to cover the cost of materials and refreshments from those who attend.

Drop in for a chat. Read the newspapers. Play dominoes or cards.

Talk to a variety of people.

 

Summer Café Out

Meet your friends at different cafes in the Newcastle area.'

Venue will be confirmed the week before.

Named NETA members will meet you there.

 

 

Communication Group

Practise your communication skills.

 

News and Current Affairs

Come along to discuss and debate current affairs, stories in the news on TV and newspapers.

 

Music

Jazz, Pop, Classical, Folk, Garage.

Whatever your taste, come along and listen to and discuss all types of music

Art

Come and try painting and drawing.

Beginners and more experiences artists welcome.

Film Group

Comedy, Thriller, Western, Musical, Action, Romance

Whatever your taste in film, come along and watch film clips and discuss all types of films.

Photography Course

7 week photography course.

Techniques to bring out the best in your photographs. Includes field trips.

Digital Photography Course

6 week photo software course. How to edit and finish your photographs using computer software

Computer Course

For people with aphasia, beginners and experienced computer users.

Tailored to your needs and level.

Computer Drop In

Practise your computer skills.

Support from other NETA members.

 

Floral Crafts Course

Practical sessions creating lovely floral arrangements.

Relatives Peer Support Group

Relatives Course

6 session course for friends and relatives of people with aphasia. Learn more about how words work in the brain.

Practice using techniques that may help you have a more enjoyable conversation.

Gain a greater understanding of what helps and ways of coping

Relatives Peer Support Group

An informal drop in for friends/relatives of people with aphasia. Meet other people in the same situation. The café runs at the same time if the person with aphasia wishes to come too.

Expert Trainer Course

Expert Trainer Course

Expert trainers: a course to train you to show others how to have a better conversation with someone with aphasia.

 

Meet Friends for News and Chat

This session is not led. Use the cafe as you wish.

Drop in for tea or coffee.

Bring your paper and chat to other members or have a game of cards or dominoes.

Poetry Writing Group

Explore words and create Poems with Sue Spencer. Same Dates and times as Cconversation Group.

 

IPad awareness Group

Bring your iPAD or share the university one.

Show each other what you use. have a go if you are new to iPADs. Learn together.

Art, Texties and Photography Exhibition

Come and see the art works from our Art, Textiles and Photography Groups.
